Camp on Sewell

28th Sept: 1861

Brig Gen: Jno. B. Floyd

Commanding &c

Meadow Bluff

By direction of Gen Lee I enclose a list of “absentees without leave” from Col. Tompkins, 22nd Va: regt; the Colonel supposes these men have ret’d to your camp & you are requested to cause them to join their command as soon as the state of the road is such as to permit it. The men are pretty comfortable; there is here plenty of beef, but no flour or salt. Finding the turnpike impossible, dispatches and were forwarded you this morning by the old State road.

Your Obt Servant,

W. H. Taylor

P.S. Since writing the foregoing, the Gen has been informed by Capt Thomas that there is no salt with this command & that there are about 80 bus[hells] at White Sul. Sp'gs he suggests that you procure the same.

W. H. Taylor,
